Services Provided

The Emergency Department cares for patients whose health problems need immediate attention and cannot wait to be seen by a family doctor.  All patients who come to the Emergency Department are offered care according to the priority of their condition compared to other patients in the department.  Medical Emergencies that are treated, but not limited to, the following types of problems:

     * Chest pain/heart attacks
     * Strokes
     * Life threatening traumatic injuries
     * Burns
     * Poisonings
     * Breathing difficulties
     * Suicide attempts
     * Severe infection
     * Head/spinal injuries
     * Fractures

As well as providing care for patients within the hospital, the Emergency Department manages urgent air evacuation and provides telephone consultative services for Health Centres int he Northwest Territories and the Kitikmeot region of Nunavut.
